Dear Parents,
My name is Natalia Russo and I would like to welcome your child to sixth grade. I am looking forward to getting to know both you and your child this year. Grade six students will achieve much this year in terms of academic growth, greater self-confidence, and improved social skills. We will also focus on leadership. Good communication between parent, teacher, and student is very important for your child’s academic growth.
Some of the themes I have planned this year are Newton's three laws of motion, the urbanization and migration of people, voting, mapping, and our solar system. In language arts, the focus will be oral language development, reading and writing.
Students are asked to be aware of the rights and property of others, respect the diversity of the school community, and to always behave in a courteous and considerate manner. Projects and assignments are to be completed with effort. FreshGrade will be used this year to communicate student learning. Homework assignments may consist of: unfinished classroom tasks, reading, reviewing, and assignments/projects. Homework will be recorded in their daily planner, each day. If homework is not completed, I expect students to complete the work at school during recess/and or lunch.
For PE it is important that your child is wearing appropriate clothing and footwear in order to participate. Please encourage your child to be prepared. Also, please ensure that your child brings a labeled water bottle to school and a healthy snack and lunch.
Please note that students MUST wear face masks inside the school. Please ensure that your child has a face mask that fits them properly. Additionally, students are encouraged to bring unscented sanitizer from home to use throughout the day.
I look forward to a safe and rewarding year with the students of Division 5. Please feel free to contact me if you have any concerns or questions. I look forward to working with you and your child to make this an exciting and productive year.
Sincerely
Ms. Russo
